As pet photographers, our goal is always to capture your pet’s one-of-a-kind personality—whether they’re full of energy, playful, or calm and serene. Here’s how you can assist in showcasing the special traits of your pet during a photo session:
1. Bring Them to the Shoot Well-Rested and Relaxed
Make sure your pet is well-rested and comfortable before the session. A tired or overstimulated pet might not show their true personality. If your pet is typically more playful in the morning or relaxed in the afternoon, plan the session around that schedule.
2. Share Their Favourite Toys and Activities
Does your pet have a favourite toy or activity that really shows who they are? Bring it to the session! Whether it’s a ball, a tug toy, or even just their cozy blanket, familiar items can help them feel more comfortable and allow us to capture them in their element.
3. Let Your Pet Lead the Way
Your pet might not always cooperate with posing, and that’s okay! Some of the best shots come from letting them be themselves. By allowing your pet to roam, play, or relax naturally, we can capture candid moments that reflect their true personality.
4. Help Us Get on Their Level
If your pet responds well to you, we may ask you to interact with them during the session. Getting on their level—either by sitting with them or offering treats—can help engage them and bring out expressions that show off their playfulness, calm demeanor, or curiosity.
5. Use Treats and Praise to Keep Them Engaged
Bringing along their favourite treats can help hold their attention, especially during moments when we want them to focus. Giving them praise or rewards when they’re calm or engaged will help us create those authentic, expressive photos.
6. Focus on Their Eyes
Your pet’s eyes tell a story! While we’ll be focusing on capturing those soulful looks, you can help by calming your pet or using soft commands to get their attention. Whether your pet has curious, wide eyes or a soft, sleepy gaze, those expressions add depth to their portraits.
7. Stay Positive and Patient
Pets can be unpredictable, but staying calm and positive helps them relax. If your pet needs a break, we’ll take one—there’s no rush! A relaxed pet will always provide better, more authentic photos.
By working together, we can capture the best side of your pet and create beautiful images that highlight their unique personality. Your pet is special, and with your help, we’ll make sure that shines through in every shot!
